Inspiration of the Month - Ciel!

Experience Momentum | Inspiration of the Month, | January 05, 2018

It is a tradition of our organization to spotlight a client and their journey each month in our newsletter. This month we are pleased to introduce you to Ciel.

Tell us about you and what motivates you:

"Having the opportunity to become the best version of myself.  That's what motivates me. And not getting Type 2 diabetes. Because nobody wants that.

ciel-2.jpgI'm 41, married to a man in blue whom I love very much, step mother to two incredible humans, and mother of 3 fur balls all named after Star-wars Characters.  (I'm not the fan, I'm just advantageous. If I want animals I have to let the family name them. Everyone wins.  I am actively soliciting names and methods of bringing a mini pig into the house now so feel free to reach out if you have any good pitches!) Born and raised in the PNW, I love it here! I'd love it more if I had a flying car, or could teleport though. I have a long commute from Maple Valley to Lynnwood every day. (and some Saturdays!)  Audible is my savior."

What has your experience been like working with us at Experience Momentum?
"The experience I've had at EM changed my life. I've joined and cancelled so many gym/martial arts/dance/etc. memberships before... All great workouts, but no community.  Experience Momentum is a family, one that I had no idea I needed in my life. They can work with you from a whole-body perspective. You can focus on one thing, or ALL the things! Physical therapy, Massage, Personal training, Nutrition...it all ties together, and they even talk about these things and what's best for your program, so that everyone in your "team" is aligned. I've never experienced anything like this before!

They remind you why all of the hard work is important. They are realistic about what to expect. They share their own stories and sweat WITH you. They share their struggles and LISTEN to yours. They hold you accountable, challenge you, yet celebrate together in your successes.  (Shout out to Brent, Christina, Alayna, Christy & Chelsea! You are my heroes!).

I cannot emphasize enough how the staff at EM has helped me to keep going when I wanted to give up. To push the limits when I thought they were already exceeded. To see the progress and not focus on what isn't. They are so focused on form to prevent injuries, it's a huge relief to be surrounded by such a proactive approach to life.  They accommodate to what is best for YOU, without sacrificing quality or effectiveness...and most importantly they never compare you to others and make you feel like you aren't capable. They push you to see how far YOU can go...to the point where you believe you can do it.  And you do.   All of the hugs are also pretty awesome too. No lie. I mean, I'm a hugger. So you know. Hugs are always welcome.

I've never seen a group of people live so aligned with their mission. "Redefine What's Possible".   Big ups to the team at Experience Momentum for just being plain freaking AWESOME.  Shannon Tysland: My hat is off to you and your team.  Thank you for ALL that you bring to this community and your members!"

What obstacles have you overcome in working towards your health and fitness goals?

"Can I just start this answer with my favorite quote from Christy (Instructor):

"This is me being vulnerable in the hopes that it will help someone else be brave." (Yes, we all cried in Cycle when she said this...and begged her not to turn on the lights until we wiped the makeup off our faces lol).

Some years ago life pelted me with lemons, and it resulted in me spending a couple years in intensive psychotherapy for symptoms of Complex Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, (C-PTSD).  My body took a pretty big toll moving through this.  I allowed myself to focus on healing my mind first, (at whatever cost my body took...) and then focus on my body.  Once I was ready,  I came to EM in dire straits...I remember the first meeting I had with a personal trainer I was in tears. Not only out of desperation (I had lost 25lbs then put on 50 lbs in the first year) but also because of the sincere empathy I felt from the person I met with.  HOPE is SUCH a powerful feeling.

I had tried every diet from Keto, to Atkins, to the Zone, Paleo and even 4 rounds of self injecting HCG diet. Lost 40, gained 60, lost 20, gained 40. I ciel-1.jpgwas a human yo-yo that could not find any solid ground. I was tipped off by Alayna (Physical Therapist) to check my hormones with my ND. (THANK YOU ALAYNA!) Which I did, and the results were a laundry list of physical ailments including Hashimoto's Thyroiditis, severe hormone imbalance, H-Pylori, adrenal fatigue, no stomach acid and a burnt out metabolism...all of which were literally preventing me fromreaching my health and fitness goals no matter what I did.  No wonder I felt like I was running in circles. :(

I came to EM for a lifestyle change...and I feel like that's exactly what has happened. I'm happy to say that even though the news has been tough, I at least now I know what the roads look like ahead of me.  And I feel confident that I can get past this and come out a better person both physically and mentally!  There have been so many moments of discouragement. But it seems as though every time that happens, I've been lucky enough to lean on my husband, my #fitfamily and my EM crew to find that extra inspiration that I needed to fight another day.  Some days I only make it to class to see their faces....and THAT my friends...is motivation enough for me <3

"I didn't come this far, to only come this far"  (I don't know who said that, but YAASSS.)"

Experience Momentum will donate $250 in Ciel's name to a 1% for the Planet charity of her choice. What charity did you choose to give your winnings to, and why?
"PAWS: Because I love animals more than humans most of the time. (Unless you work at EM or Zumiez. Fun fact).

And usually because whatever they are going through is likely a direct result of human negligence or from humans taking over or polluting their habitat. I'm elated that EM has given me this chance to donate to them!! This makes my heart so happy!"

A fun fact about yourself:

"I'm a travel junkie, with the worst motion sickness you'll ever witness."

Your favorite quote:

"Only when we are brave enough to explore the darkness will we discover the infinite power of our light."

"Courage is not the absence of fear, but the judgment that something else is more important that fear. The brave may not live forever, but he cautious do not live at all.  For now you are traveling the road between who you think you are, and who you can be."
