Creating a Brilliant 2024

RWP
Only as high as I reach can I grow, only as far as I seek can I go, only as deep as I look can I see, only as much as I dream can I be.
— Karen Ravn

At the stroke of midnight January 1st, 2024 was launched and a New Year began. With the turning of the year comes a tradition of reflection and resolution. January 1 is the first day of the modern Gregorian calendar and the Romans believed that it was a day dedicated to open doors or gates announcing new beginnings. Many see it as an opportunity to focus attention on dreams, desires and actions they would like to complete in the coming year.

For Experience Momentum we met last month, in December, with all of our managers to plan out how we can do better in 2024. This isn't just a time for us to take a day but time to be together to reflect on the year that passed and embrace the year ahead capturing the untapped potential of our individual and collective talents. It is a time for us to look closely at all aspects of our operations and make changes where necessary, ignite enthusiasm for new ideas and partnerships and grow our connection with those that we serve. We challenge ourselves to dream, plan our actions and put measurements in place so that we know we are reaching the goals that we have set for ourselves personally and as a team. Our hope for our EM community is that the New Year brings you many opportunities to dream big and create the actions to reach your full potential.

Our Mission is constant.

Our mission is to educate, support, empower, and connect with our community, clients and team members to help them redefine what’s possible in their lives.

Creating a Brilliant 2024

I love to read and one of my favorites to kick the year off is "How To Be Brilliant" by Michael Heppell. This book is written to challenge you to take your life on in all areas and truly live all out. Heppell uses the analogy of a wheel with eight spokes supporting the wheel. The eight spokes represent the key areas of your life; health, family, finances, relationships, contribution, vision, career, and personal development. This tool allows you to measure how you are performing in all areas of your life right now on a scale of 1 - 10. A score of 10 means your life can't be any better, a score of 1 means your life can't be any worse. If you score a 10 in your career, however you are a 1 in family, then your ride on the 'wheel of life' is going to be very bumpy and unbalanced. Wheel of Life download here. When you identify an area for improvement, maybe an area that scored below an 8, Heppell suggests the following five points to guide you to a more successful outcome.

  1. Positive action - Be positive with the words you choose, the questions you ask and your internal dialogue. When someone asks, "How are you?" the majority of us will answer with one of two answers, fine or not bad. These words are not very positive. Heppell challenges us to be more positive and truthful. For instance, if you are dog tired and someone asks how you are feeling maybe say "I could do with a bit of more energy." The rationale is our brain hears the word energy and focuses on that. Our bodies will work to create more energy. Conversely, when we say we are tired our bodies focus on the word tired and we become more tired. Give it a try!

  2. Break out of your comfort zone - Identify what is holding you back from playing full out in life. Many times it is FEAR. Fear of failure, fear of looking bad to others, fear of what you may lose and the list goes on. Identify what the fear is and move through it. Part of the reason I decided to compete in Ironman triathlon competitions in years past was to move through the fear that I wouldn't succeed. What I realized is the more I break through fears the more I want to push the boundaries of my comfort zone, this allows me to live life all out.

  3. Think Differently - Einstein once said, "You can't solve your problems with the same thinking that caused them in the first place." You can train your brain to think differently. This can be a challenge as thinking differently may challenge our belief system.  After watching the documentary, Kiss The Ground, I was re-inspired to plant more of everything in our garden, using the soil to help with carbon sequestration. There is so much possibility in our commercial farming practices to help draw down Carbon, however this requires a new way of thinking and doing what has been done for decades. Check out the film and spread the word!

  4. Relaxation - In our information overloaded society, relaxation is often overlooked. Our brains never get a chance to unwind. I have a challenge for you; sit in a quiet room with your eyes closed for 20 minutes, no television, no phone, no computer, no talking. Are you able to quiet your mind or are you in constant chatter with yourself. When you are able to quiet your mind for 20 minutes a day, you will be able to unleash your personal creativity and restore your physical health. Give it a try.

  5. Massive Action Plan (MAP) - Van Goethe has said, "Thinking is easy, acting is difficult, and to put ones thoughts into action is the most difficult thing in the world." Without a plan your dreams and goals will remain just that. It is the plan to act on that is the compass to guide you to fulfill your dreams. Set aside some time to create your MAP to take on each area of your life for 2024. Then schedule the time to work your plan and create a life that inspires you!
